It's Always Something!

I am so glad that it's Friday today. It's been a long week -- and a hot week, too. With Ruthie's vet visit on Tuesday and a dentist appointment for me Wednesday morning, our usual schedule has gotten disrupted, and combine that with the heat and you get a grumpy, worn-out me. To add to it, I got a call from the vet on Wednesday saying that Ruthie's, um, sample had tested positive for a parasite, so I had to go back to pick up two medications for her. Poor thing. Fortunately she doesn't seem to be having symptoms, and she really doesn't mind getting the peanut butter and cheese that are the vehicles for getting the meds into her, but it's one more thing to worry about.

I haven't gotten much knitting or reading done the past several days, for obvious reasons, though I've added a tooth or two to my Hitchhiker each afternoon and the remaining yarn is quickly getting smaller. I think I should be able to finish it up soon, and I think I'm going to give it to my mother as a birthday present because I don't have time to knit her a pair of socks. I'm hoping to find some quiet time this weekend to try to figure out the lace on my Kouyou again; I've put it aside since the two failed attempts and am hoping the break will help me to clarify things.

We have no big plans for the weekend other than a Father's Day brunch with my family. I'm not even sure if Ruthie and I can attend puppy class on Saturday morning (I'm waiting to hear back about whether it's okay because she'll have been on the medication for several days by that point). With no exciting knitting photos to share, I'll leave you with a shot of my hydrangeas, which have just exploded with blooms in all shades the past couple of weeks:

and a shot of Ruthie -- just because (and hey, today also marks two months since she joined our family!):

Have a good weekend, friends!

  1. It's been too hot for me, too, and I'm not even out there walking a dog every day! I hope Ruthie gets rid of the parasite soon and that she doesn't have to miss class. Wishing you a nice calm weekend with some some knitting time.

  2. The warm weather has definitely changed things up here! (I think I can finally put my coat away! Ha!) I hope Ruthie is parasite free and soon! Have a fantastic weekend (and stay cool!)

  3. Your hydrangeas are just lovely, Sarah. And Ruthie looks so perfectly at home with you and your family! Puppies and parasites . . . they just seem to go together . . . Hope she gets the all-clear for puppy class! have a great weekend.

  4. Good morning, Sarah! I’ve been reading your last several posts and am glad to catch up in your happenings. Your Sugat Maple is stunning—and stunning on you.
I’m so glad the summer job is going well for you BOTH! I find a lot of value in that ‘framework’ for teens, especially once the built-in framework of school ends.
Our puggle got carsick the first year or so but, thankfully, outgrew it and LOVES car rides now. It was messy for a while…the most vivid episode being when she vomited as we embarked on a camping trip—and she “aimed” for our camping coffee pot that was stashed nearby. (Bull’s eye, unfortunately!) Here’s to her continued progress.
Happy weekending to you and your family.

  5. Awwww...poor Ruthie. Hopefully the meds take care of it quickly. We went through the oarasite thing with Giroux too. I suppose as a stray in Florida, it wqs inevitable.

  7. Sounds like the parasite got caught quickly, thank goodness! Your hydrangeas are lovely—there's a bush down our street that Coleslaw loves to stop at and smell the flowers whenever we're down that way!

  8. Happy two months to Ruthie and your family. The hydrangeas are so pretty. What a treat Around here they are mostly cream unless the gardener is aggressive about adding something (I can't remember what it is) to the soil. Enjoy the weekend.

  9. Your hydrangeas are lovely and the variety of shades is gorgeous. The new one I planted is in full bloom (because I bought it that way and it was forced in the greenhouse) but the ones in my garden aren't even close yet due to the cool spring we have had. I hope Ruthie is doing well and you were able to go to puppy class since she loved it so much last week.

  10. Hopefully a quiet weekend will be good for you all. Ruthie looks very at home and I hope she is able to make it to class on Saturday. Puppy classes are so important (for both you and her). This morning I saw hydrangeas in my neighborhood which is rare to the point of being unheard of. They were the colors of your but not as prolific. Enjoy your weekend!
