Mid-April Weekending

It was a very quiet weekend here, by necessity. Molly and I had theater tickets for the Saturday matinee of Some Like It Hot, but neither of us was all that excited about the show and I didn't feel I could leave Ruthie with the Mister (nor would he have likely agreed to stay with her), so we skipped it. The most exciting moments of the weekend, for Ruthie anyway, were visits from family. My in-laws came over for dinner on Friday night, and while she spent much of the evening in her crate, she handled it pretty well -- especially because my mother-in-law was very up in her face. My brother, sister-in-law, nephew, and niece stopped by for a bit on Saturday afternoon; Ruthie was understandably nervous around my nephew but seemed quite interested in my niece. And last night my parents brought dinner over. It's clear that Ruthie is still wary around people she doesn't know, but she's handling it much better than she was just a few days ago.

The exciting moment for me this weekend came on Sunday afternoon. Ruthie was snoozing, so I decided to take a chance with my knitting:

It's not much, but it's something -- and it's the first I've knit in a week!

I can't promise I'm going to keep up with my normal blogging schedule for the next while, not least because I'm not going to have much in the way of content if I can't get much knitting done, but I will try.

  1. I am so glad that Ruthie is settling in well and is adjusting to new people! I predict that there will be more making in the coming days! Happy Monday!

  2. That's a lot of new people in a short amount of time for Ruthie, sounds like she'd adjusting rather well. And I'm so glad you were able to knit. It was MONTHS before I could knit around Fred & George and it's still a challenge sometimes!

  3. It sounds like Ruthie is doing well, gradually getting used to things, places, and people. Any knitting that you can do is a plus, and you don't even have to even write anything for a blog post. Just a picture of Ruthie will do!

  4. Some big, positive steps, for sure! I love that picture, Sarah. I’m certain of more long, sweet stretches just like it yet to come. (And I hope you got a decent night’s sleep!)

  5. Slowly but surely Ruthie will come to love your family. They will become familiar and she will relax some. I saw that pic on IG of her sitting - so funny!! Good to hear you were finally able to knit some!

  6. You're doing such a great job working with Ruthie, Sarah! She will continue to grow more comfortable with other people as she gains confidence and trust in her new surroundings with her new "pack." There is nothing like a snoozing pup, is there? XO

  7. Way to go, Ruthie! Congrats on finally picking your needles back up, even if it's only for a few minutes!

  8. Good for you, giving her so many chances to learn that new people will be OK. Our Diggory joined us during COVID, and while not scared of strangers, isn't as polite as we wish he was. All your efforts now are money in the bank.

  9. Yay, Ruthie! Quiet weekends are always welcomed and they are especially wonderful when you get to see Ruthie settle in and become more comfortable. Your picture with your reading, knitting, and Ruthie resting in the background is priceless. I hope you get many more of these moments this week!

  10. I imagine it felt good to get back to knitting - even if just for a few minutes. I had a few days post surgery when I didn't do any knitting and it felt very strange. Do what you need to do and your readers will be hear when you do post. Life does happen.

  11. Love seeing Ruthie asleep in the photo ... and a tiny bit of knitting in your hands. I'm here for whatever you can post and you know I love the Ruthie updates!
